E-conomy and E-waste

E-waste is growing exponentially because the market in which these products are produced is also growing rapidly. The increasing market penetration in the developing countries and replacement markets in the developed countries and high obsolescence rate make e-waste one of the fastest growing waste streams. There is no sign that this revolution will abate soon. The methods for disposing of e- waste are imperfect and may result in detrimental effects to the environment and humans. Economies of scale have given way to lower prices for many electrical and electronic goods, which has increased global demand for many products that eventually end up as electronic waste (e-waste). Further, rapid product innovations because of digitization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) lead to frequent replacements of the e-gadgets that fuel the increase in their obsolete versions and respective sets as e-wastes.
